Strategic business-IT alignment (ensuring consistency between IT investments and high-level business goals) is the primary objective for any CIO. During the economic slump of the past few years, being business aligned meant, in most cases, being lean, cost-effective, able to do more with less, or, simply put, being much, much cheaper. Today, business priorities are turning from mere cost cutting and watching the bottom line to top-line attention and growth, thus causing a drastic change in the rationale behind business-IT alignment.
